APN Criticizes Attempts to Politicize Peace for Israel

Washington, DC - Americans for Peace Now (APN) today sharply criticized a reprehensible full-page ad, published in the New York Times, lambasting President Obama's record on Israel.

The ad, published by an organization headed by Weekly Standard editor William Kristol and Christian conservative Gary Bauer, a former presidential candidate, is headlined "Tell President Obama: Enough. It's time to stand with Israel." Among other things, the ad appallingly states that the President "has pressured Israel to apologize to terrorists."

APN's President and CEO Debra DeLee said: "This ad is an outrage, both because it is patently false - President Obama has demonstrated throughout his presidency that he is a staunch supporter of Israel - and because it yet again abuses Israel as a political football in a polarized partisan environment."

"This ad is especially insulting because it comes after long months of the Obama administration's working closely with Israel's government on addressing Israel's escalating isolation in the international arena, after President Obama personally worked to save the lives of Israelis besieged at Israel's embassy in Cairo, and at a time in which America's security and intelligence cooperation with Israel is at a peak. To not even recognize these facts is sheer chutzpah."

"This ad does not serve Israel's interests - or America's, for that matter. All it does is take an issue that is a matter of broad consensus in this country - peace and security for Israel - and unabashedly abuse it for political partisan purposes. That is reprehensible. Mr. Kristol, Mr. Bauer: Enough!"
