APN Salutes Sec. Clinton's Bold Pro-Peace Speech

Washington, DC - Americans for Peace Now today saluted Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for making a compelling case for Israeli-Arab Peace and for restating the administration's unwavering commitment to achieving comprehensive peace for Israel and its neighbors.

"Secretary Clinton was right to boldly point out - particularly to AIPAC's annual policy conference - that the status quo in which Israelis cannot enjoy the benefits of secure and internationally recognized borders is not sustainable," said Debra DeLee, APN's President and CEO.

"Secretary Clinton deserves praise and gratitude for walking into the lion's den and telling AIPAC that Israel needs to do more for peace, as do the Palestinians and the Arab governments," DeLee said.

"And Secretary Clinton deserves recognition for stating that breaking with the status quo in pursuit of peace, security and stability is a key American interest which requires action by Israel and its neighbors. We welcome her call on Israel and the Palestinians to refrain from steps that undermine progress for peace, including new Israeli construction in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, which undermines America's essential role in the peace process."

DeLee welcomed Secretary Clinton's statement that America's "commitment to Israel's security and future is rock-solid, unwavering, and enduring forever." She also thanked Clinton for making clear that America will play an "active and substantial role" to help Israel and its neighbors tackle the tough issues they need to negotiate a peace agreement and that America will stand with Israel as it makes tough decisions on the road to peace.
