Washington, DC -Americans for Peace Now today welcomed President Obama's appointment of Robert Stephen Ford as ambassador to Syria and urged the Senate to promptly approve the appointment.
"Ambassador Ford, a seasoned professional diplomat with vast experience in the region is the right pick for a position that should have been staffed years ago," said Debra DeLee, APN's president and CEO. "When President Obama took office, we recommended that he immediately resume America's dialogue with Syria and appoint an ambassador to Damascus. Strong diplomatic relations with Syria are important for the US administration to advance its agenda in the Middle East, including Israeli-Syrian peace," DeLee said.
"The Obama administration should use its stronger relations with Syria to jump-start and broker Israeli-Syrian peace negotiations," DeLee said.
APN is America's leading organization advocating for peace for Israel.
