APN's New Chair: Martin I. Bresler; New Vice Chair: Jo-Ann Mort; Treasurer: Sidney Topol

Los Angeles, CA -- Americans for Peace Now announced today the election of Martin I. Bresler as the new Chair of its Board of Directors. 

Born in Brooklyn and a life-long New Yorker, Mr. Bresler practiced law for almost forty years, most spent as a partner of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan. He holds a business degree from City College of New York (Baruch School), and a law degree from Harvard Law School. Mr. Bresler served in the United States Army before he started his career in law. In recent years, Mr. Bresler has been APN's representative to the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, of which APN is a member.

In addition to his service on APN's Board, Mr. Bresler is a member of the Board of Governors of the American Jewish Committee. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Federation Employment and Guidance Service, a Federation of Jewish Philanthropies-affiliated New York based health and human services organization serving the Jewish and greater communities of New York. Mr. Bresler is succeeding Prof. Franklin M. Fisher of MIT, who will remain on APN's Board.

At its recent meeting in Los Angeles this week, APN's Board of Directors also elected Jo-Ann Mort to serve as its Vice Chair. Ms. Mort is the founder and CEO of New York City-based ChangeCommunications, a boutique strategic communications firm that works with philanthropists, foundations, trade unions, socially-responsible businesses and NGOS in the U.S., Israel, West Bank and Gaza. She is also a well-regarded freelance journalist and writer with an expertise in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and in domestic issues faced in Israel and Gaza and the West Bank. Ms. Mort is the co-author of Our Hearts Invented a Place: Can Kibbutzim Survive in Today's Israel? (Cornell University Press). She is a member of the board of trustees of Congregation Beth Elohim in Park Slope Brooklyn. Ms. Mort is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College. She lives in Brooklyn, NY.

APN's Board also elected Boston native Sidney Topol as its Secretary-Treasurer. Mr. Topol was President, CEO, Chairman of the Board, and Director of Scientific-Atlanta, Inc. Before that, he spent 22 years with Raytheon Company in Massachusetts and Europe, including several years as the General Manager of its Communications Division.  Mr. Topol is currently President of The Topol Group LLC. Mr. Topol is Founding Chairman of the Massachusetts Telecommunications Council, a past Chairman of the Electronic Industries Association, a member of the Board of Overseers of WGBH and the PBS Board, a member of the Governor's Advisory Committee on Information Technology, a member of the Dean's Council at the Kennedy School at Harvard University, and a member of the Governor's Council on Economic Growth. He also served on the Export Now Committee during the Reagan Administration and on the Export-Import Bank Advisory Committee in 1989. For his numerous contributions to the field of technology, Mr. Topol has been inducted into the Satellite Hall of Fame, Cable Television Hall of Fame, MTC Hall of Fame, and the Georgia Technology Hall of Fame.
