ACTION ALERT (7/26/06): "Rice Leaves Rome Empty Handed; Tell Bush You Expect Better"

PAST ACTION ALERT - FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY - PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND

PAST ACTION ALERT - FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY - PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice met with European and Arab leaders today in Rome, following visits to Beirut, Jerusalem, and Ramallah. This diplomatic whirlwind appears to have been for naught. The meeting in Rome concluded without any plan to end the escalation, restore order, and put all the parties back on the road to security, stability, and peace.

We expect more from American diplomacy. Key American interests are at stake, as are the lives of countless Israelis and Lebanese.

The Bush Administration should not just be going through the motions of diplomacy. It needs to get the job done.

APN has suggested that to get the job done, the Bush Administration should reconsider their refusal to engage with some parties in the region - like Syria. APN has also suggested that President Bush should be prepared to follow up - personally or through top-level envoys - with sustained diplomacy, something he has repeatedly failed to do in his past efforts at Middle East diplomacy.

Please send a letter to the editor of local media outlets. Say that you expect more from American diplomacy.

Please contact President Bush. Urge him to work to end the escalation, restore order, and put the parties back on the road to security, stability, and peace. And tell him to see the job through.
