On Monday, December 4, 2006, Ameinu, Chicago Peace Now, and Temple Beth Israel, were the sponsors of a talk by distinguished Member of Knesset:

Ophir Pines-Paz

"The Search for Peace after the War in Lebanon"

MK Pines-Paz (Labor), a member of Israel's parliament since 1996, has held several high-ranking positions, including Minister of Interior. When he resigned his cabinet seat to protest the inclusion of a far-right party in the Israeli government, he wrote in his resignation letter to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert:

"I cannot sit in a government with a minister who preaches racism, whose statements harm the essence of democracy in the State of Israel. Since the second war in Lebanon the government has lost its way. I have come to this decision for reasons of conscience."
