New APN Publication Debunks "Indefensibility" Argument

Washington, DC - Americans for Peace Now (APN) today unveiled a new publication debunking the claim that Israel would not be able to defend a negotiated eastern border line based on the 1967 "Green Line."

The new booklet, to be distributed to some 20,000 opinion leaders, including rabbis, foreign policy experts, and Jewish community activists, provides a thorough risk-benefit analysis to show that the benefits of a future realistic peace agreement with the Palestinians far outweigh the risks. The paper addresses both the merits of the "indefensible borders" argument and the manipulative motivation of its proponents, showing how an ideological agenda and scare tactics are often veiled as geo-strategic analysis.

The document, "Indefensible: Misrepresenting the borders issue to undermine Israeli-Palestinian peace" parses the arguments regarding the defensibility of future negotiated Israeli-Palestinian borders, and concludes: "Such borders are not indefensible - they are Israel's best defense. What is indefensible is an occupation that has been going on for forty four years. What is indefensible is continuing this occupation in perpetuity. Indefensible is constructing settlements on land that must soon become the future Palestinian state. Indefensible is dismissing a peace plan endorsed by the Arab League, which promises full normalization with all twenty-two Arab states. Indefensible is denying Israelis the peace that they yearn for and deserve, and continuing to deny them a respectable place among the family of nations."
