Peace Now Letter to PM Netanyahu

Nokdim Settlement Construction 186x140.jpg"Building 300 housing units in Beit El and expanding other settlements are not a punishment to Peace Now but a punishment to all the citizens in this country..."

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Netanyahu was quoted with regard to the litigation of Peace Now and other organizations, that they should know for every illegally built structure in the settlements that he will be compelled to demolish by court order, he will build ten.

In response, Peace Now published an open letter to him as an ad in the Hebrew media, and is collecting signatures to be sent to the Prime Minister.

Mr. Prime Minister,

Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu

In the past few days, people close to you have said that they intend to "punish" Peace Now and other organizations for petitioning the Supreme Court and build ten new houses in the settlements for every illegal building that you will have to remove.

Building 300 housing units in Beit El and expanding other settlements are not a punishment to Peace Now but a punishment to all the citizens in this country, who will pay the price of building the settlements and removing them in the future. The millions of shekels that you intend to invest in building in the settlements you could invest in affordable housing inside Israel.

Every additional home built in the settlements jeopardizes the ability to separate from the Palestinians and threatens the Jewish and democratic identity of the state of Israel.

Mr. Prime Minister, if you mean to hand a consolation prize to the settlers or to punish Peace Now, please do it in other ways, not at the expense of the future of Israel's citizens.

Sincerely,

Peace Now
